Self care isn’t selfish and Loving My Life

An important thing to remember.

Sadly, many people feel guilt over taking care of themselves but really, if you do not take care of yourself, you will not be able to take care of others. I know this because I used to be one of those people that felt guilty.

Part of learning to love and appreciate myself, was learning not to feel guilty about taking care of myself.

Today, as part of my self care routine, I had a facial. If you have never had a facial, I highly recommend it! The best way I can describe it is, that it is a massage for your face, but not at all painful. In fact, it is a wonderful, relaxing experience.

Bioelements Skincare products

The water that you wash with affects your skin in many ways. I have always tried to take good care of my skin but when I moved to Columbia, I went from a nice soft water to very hard water and this caused me a lot of problems with my skin.

Up to that point, I had been buying my skincare products at Estee Lauder through Macy’s but suddenly, the girls behind the counter were at a loss as to how to help me so it was time to see a Dermatologist and find an Esthetician!

Courtney, the lovely Esthetician that I saw today is with Jordan Thomas Salon in Bel Air and she was recommended to me by a few people.

Courtney is very friendly, makes you feel at ease and is very sweet, but most importantly, she is knowledgeable and helpful. She does a wonderful job. I definitely trust her with my skincare!

It’s been quite some time since I saw her last but she recognized me and we had a lot of catching up to do, since so much has happened in both our lives since we last saw each other.

I let her know that I am having a few new problems with my skin. Mostly, breaking out in the mask area, so I believe it is due to wearing masks. She said a lot of people are having similar problems.

We talked about my current skincare routine. Courtney asked me a few questions and let me know what products she was planning to use for my facial, the solutions that she had for my break outs and some other bits of knowledge.

The facial was wonderful and relaxing and my skin felt and looked great afterwards!

If you want to find an Esthetician, I recommend doing your research! Check out the Spas, Salons and Dermatologists near you. Look up reviews on the establishments and individual technicians. Ask around for recommendations; ask friends, work mates and your trusted hair stylists. Then book a consultations to meet a technician or two. Talk to the technicians about your skin care concerns and needs and go with your gut feeling!

Love yourself and your life!

  1. Such an important message! We often forget to take care of ourselves first, so that we have the energy and mindset to help those who we care for. Skin care is so tough to me. I’m allergic to so many products, that I end up doing nothing at all. It has always worked for me….until the dreaded age factor set in. Now, yikes!

    1. Thanks for your comment Tammy! I had the same problem but kept at finding a product I could use. It took me years but I was determined! Have you tried a Dermatologist and/or organic products?
